Este proceso de fotocat\u00e1lisis se puede utilizar para eliminar de forma segura la materia peligrosa y contaminante del aire.<\/p>\n<p>A\u00fan mejor, el TiO<sub>2\u00a0<\/sub>no se consume ni se degrada. Si el di\u00f3xido de titanio se aplicara a los edificios a gran escala, las ciudades podr\u00edan emplear una herramienta adicional para hacer frente a los altos niveles de contaminaci\u00f3n producidos a diario.<\/p>\n<p>La efectividad del di\u00f3xido de titanio como material fotocatal\u00edtico ha sido cuestionada, en particular, en 2016 por el Grupo de Expertos en Calidad del Aire del Reino Unido. Este concepto puede reducir el smog en las ciudades entre un 19 y un 45 por ciento, dependiendo de las condiciones.<\/p>\n<p>Los estudiantes de la Universidad de California Riverside utilizaron un concepto similar, pero lo aplicaron a las tejas. Cada teja est\u00e1 simplemente cubierta con di\u00f3xido de titanio y, como absorben la luz solar durante todo el d\u00eda, las tejas eliminan la contaminaci\u00f3n del aire.<\/p>\n<p>Cuando se usa de una manera particular, la capacidad del di\u00f3xido de titanio para eliminar contaminantes directamente del aire ofrece una gran oportunidad en la lucha para reducir los niveles de contaminaci\u00f3n. Esto es particularmente relevante en las ciudades, que tienen altos niveles de contaminaci\u00f3n y una gran cantidad de edificios.<\/p>\n<p>Existen limitaciones para el uso de di\u00f3xido de titanio en las superficies en la lucha contra la contaminaci\u00f3n del aire local, pero se puede utilizar en combinaci\u00f3n con otras medidas para tener un impacto
