_module_preset=\u00a0\u00bbdefault\u00a0\u00bb global_colors_info=\u00a0\u00bb{}\u00a0\u00bb]<\/p>\n<p>Certaines formes sp\u00e9cifiques du dioxyde de titane peuvent \u00e9liminer les oxydes d\u2019azote nocifs pr\u00e9sents dans l\u2019atmosph\u00e8re gr\u00e2ce \u00e0 leur action \u00abphotocatalytique\u00bb, par laquelle la lumi\u00e8re acc\u00e9l\u00e8re une r\u00e9action chimique. La r\u00e9action entra\u00eene une conversion des oxydes d\u2019azote en des sels solubles inoffensifs.<\/p>\n<p>En peignant des b\u00e2timents ou en utilisant des mat\u00e9riaux qui sont naturellement expos\u00e9s \u00e0 la lumi\u00e8re du soleil, couverts d\u2019un rev\u00eatement ou contenant des formes sp\u00e9cifiques de dioxyde de titane, il est possible de cr\u00e9er cette r\u00e9action \u00e0 grande \u00e9chelle.<\/p>\n<p>Les oxydes d\u2019azote, g\u00e9n\u00e9ralement produits par les moteurs diesel, sont directement nocifs pour la sant\u00e9 et responsables de la formation du smog (m\u00e9lange de fum\u00e9e et de brouillard stagnant parfois au-dessus des concentrations urbaines et industrielles). Ce processus de photocatalyse peut \u00eatre utilis\u00e9 pour \u00e9liminer en toute s\u00e9curit\u00e9 des mati\u00e8res dangereuses et polluantes de l\u2019atmosph\u00e8re.<\/p>\n<p>Par ailleurs, le dioxyde de titane n\u2019est ni consomm\u00e9 ni d\u00e9grad\u00e9. Ce concept permet de r\u00e9duire la quantit\u00e9 de smog de 19 % \u00e0 45 %, selon les conditions.<\/p>\n<p>Des \u00e9tudiants de l\u2019universit\u00e9 de Californie-Riverside ont appliqu\u00e9 un concept similaire \u00e0 des tuiles de toiture. Chaque tuile est simplement recouverte de dioxyde de titane et \u00e9limine la pollution atmosph\u00e9rique lorsqu\u2019elle absorbe la lumi\u00e8re solaire tout au long de la journ\u00e9e.<\/p>\n<p>Lorsqu\u2019il est utilis\u00e9 d\u2019une mani\u00e8re particuli\u00e8re, le dioxyde de titane a la capacit\u00e9 d\u2019\u00e9liminer directement les polluants atmosph\u00e9riques, ce qui repr\u00e9sente une opportunit\u00e9 exceptionnelle dans le combat contre la pollution. C\u2019est particuli\u00e8rement le cas en milieu urbain, qui pr\u00e9sente \u00e0 la fois des niveaux de pollution tr\u00e8s \u00e9lev\u00e9s et une forte concentration de b\u00e2timents.<\/p>\n<p>L\u2019utilisation du dioxyde de titane sur des surfaces dans la lutte contre la pollution atmosph\u00e9rique locale est soumise \u00e0 des limites, mais il peut \u00eatre utilis\u00e9 en combinaison avec d\u2019autres mesures afin de produire un impact significatif.<\/p>\n<p>Le TiO<sub>2<\/sub>\u00a0offre une solution \u00e9conomique qui n\u00e9cessite peu
