Le TiO<sub>2<\/sub>\u00a0n\u2019apporte pas seulement une couleur ultra-blanche, il peut aussi prot\u00e9ger les aliments, en particulier ceux qui sont sensibles \u00e0 la lumi\u00e8re. Par exemple, il a \u00e9t\u00e9 d\u00e9montr\u00e9 que l\u2019utilisation de TiO<sub>2<\/sub>\u00a0dans les emballages prot\u00e8ge efficacement la qualit\u00e9 du lait pendant une p\u00e9riode prolong\u00e9e d\u2019exposition \u00e0 la lumi\u00e8re, comme dans les rayons des magasins.<\/p>\n<p>La s\u00e9curit\u00e9 du TiO<sub>2<\/sub>\u00a0a r\u00e9cemment \u00e9t\u00e9 mise en question. En f\u00e9vrier 2020, la Commission europ\u00e9enne (CE) a class\u00e9 certaines formes de poudre de TiO<sub>2<\/sub>\u00a0comme canc\u00e9rog\u00e8ne pr\u00e9sum\u00e9 de cat\u00e9gorie 2 par inhalation, mais dans un arr\u00eat rendu le 23 novembre 2022, le Tribunal de l\u2019Union europ\u00e9enne a jug\u00e9 que ce n\u2019\u00e9tait pas le cas, en l\u2019absence de preuves fiables.<\/p>\n<p>En janvier 2022, la Commission europ\u00e9enne a adopt\u00e9 un\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/eur-lex.europa.eu\/legal-content\/EN\/TXT\/?uri=uriserv%3AOJ.L_.2022.011.01.0001.01.ENG\">r\u00e8glement<\/a>\u00a0supprimant l\u2019autorisation du E 171 en tant qu\u2019additif alimentaire. E 171 est le num\u00e9ro E d\u2019une qualit\u00e9 sp\u00e9cifique de TiO<sub>2<\/sub>\u00a0utilis\u00e9e comme additif alimentaire, qui n\u2019est normalement pas utilis\u00e9e pour les applications en contact avec les aliments. Il est important de noter qu\u2019il n\u2019y a pas de lien direct entre cette mise \u00e0 jour du r\u00e8glement et l\u2019utilisation du TiO<sub>2<\/sub>\u00a0dans les applications en contact avec les aliments.<\/p>\n<p>Le retrait de l\u2019autorisation fait suite \u00e0\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.efsa.europa.eu\/en\/news\/titanium-dioxide-e171-no-longer-considered-safe-when-used-food-additive\">l\u2019avis<\/a>\u00a0de l\u2019Autorit\u00e9 europ\u00e9enne de s\u00e9curit\u00e9 des aliments (EFSA) sur le E171 publi\u00e9 le 6 mai 2021, qui identifie des incertitudes quant aux donn\u00e9es scientifiques,\u00a0sans\u00a0<u>toutefois affirmer que le TiO<sub>2<\/sub>\u00a0est dangereux<\/u>. Suite \u00e0 cela, l\u2019Organisation mondiale de la sant\u00e9 (OMS), le Minist\u00e8re de la Sant\u00e9, du Travail et du Bien-\u00eatre du Japon (MHLW), l\u2019Institut national des sciences de la sant\u00e9 du Japon (NIHS), Sant\u00e9 Canada, l\u2019Autorit\u00e9 australienne de r\u00e9glementation des normes alimentaires (FSANZ), l\u2019Agence britannique des normes alimentaires (UK FSA) et l\u2019Administration des aliments et m\u00e9dicaments des \u00c9tats-Unis (FDA) ont tous conclu que le TiO<sub>2<\/sub>\u00a0est s\u00fbr en tant qu\u2019additif alimentaire.<\/p>\n<p>La Commission europ\u00e9enne a \u00e9tudi\u00e9 la possibilit\u00e9 de r\u00e9viser le\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/eur-lex.europa.eu\/eli\/reg\/2011\/10\/oj\">r\u00e8glement<\/a>\u00a0de l\u2019UE sur les mat\u00e9riaux en plastique entrant en contact avec les denr\u00e9es alimentaires afin de fixer une limite de diffusion du TiO<sub>2<\/sub>\u00a0par mesure de pr\u00e9caution. L\u2019AMRT s\u2019efforce de comprendre les implications d\u2019une \u00e9ventuelle limite de diffusion sp\u00e9cifique pour le TiO<sub>2<\/sub>. Entre-temps, l\u2019AMRT investit dans de nouvelles \u00e9tudes sur la s\u00e9curit\u00e9 du TiO<sub>2<\/sub>\u00a0dans les mat\u00e9riaux en contact avec les aliments, dans le cadre de son programme scientifique plus large. Ces \u00e9tudes visent \u00e0 g\u00e9n\u00e9rer des donn\u00e9es suppl\u00e9mentaires pour confirmer la s\u00e9curit\u00e9 du TiO<sub>2<\/sub>\u00a0et l\u2019AMRT reste persuad\u00e9e que de nouvelles preuves continueront \u00e0 r\u00e9affirmer la s\u00e9curit\u00e9 du TiO<sub>2<\/sub>\u00a0et son ad\u00e9quation avec les mat\u00e9riaux en contact avec les denr\u00e9es
