Van hydrofobe (waterafstotende) deklagen tot stoffen die vetmoleculen afweren, de verscheidenheid aan methoden om zelfreinigende materialen te maken is groot. Tegenwoordig wordt steeds vaker titaandioxide (TiO<sub>2<\/sub>) gebruikt bij de ontwikkelig van zelfreinigende materialen.<\/p>\n<p>Door toevoeging van titaandioxide TiO<sub>2<\/sub> -nanodeeltjes krijgt een materiaal zelfreinigende eigenschappen aangezien de stof \u2013 in deze vorm \u2013 een fotokatalysator is: wanneer zonlicht op titaandioxide valt, ontstaat er een reactie die vuil afbreekt.<\/p>\n<p>[\/et_pb_text][difl_divider separetor_type=&#8221;no&#8221; divider_line_color=&#8221;#000000&#8243; divider_line_width=&#8221;1px&#8221; _builder_version=&#8221;4.27.4&#8243; _module_preset=&#8221;default&#8221; global_colors_info=&#8221;{}&#8221;][\/difl_divider][et_pb_text _builder_version=&#8221;4.27.4&#8243; _module_preset=&#8221;default&#8221; header_3_font=&#8221;Noto Sans|600|||||||&#8221; global_colors_info=&#8221;{}&#8221;]<\/p>\n<h3>Zelfreinigende smartphones genieten van de zon<\/h3>\n<p>[\/et_pb_text][et_pb_text _builder_version=&#8221;4.27.4&#8243; _module_preset=&#8221;default&#8221; global_colors_info=&#8221;{}&#8221;]<\/p>\n<p>Zonlicht bestaat uit een spectrum van elektromagnetische straling, waaronder ultraviolet (UV), infrarood en zichtbaar licht. De meeste uv-straling wordt weggefilterd in de atmosfeer en bereikt nooit de aarde. De deklaag kan ook worden gebruikt voor tuinmeubels, die in de winter vaak buiten blijven staan en dan wat slijmerig worden. Laat ze gewoon in de zon staan om ze schoon te maken, zeggen de onderzoekers van Fraunhofer. <\/p>\n<p>Maar wat gebeurt er als er geen zon is? Onderzoek laat zien dat toevoeging van andere elementen de werking van de nanodeeltjes kan versterken. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cDe laatste decennia heeft de wetenschap veel vooruitgang geboekt in het verbeteren van de absorptie van zichtbaar licht door TiO<sub>2<\/sub> door verschillende elementen zoals stikstof, zwavel en fluor toe voegen, wat de werking op minder zonnige dagen versterkt\u201d, vertelt Mallikarjuna Nadagouda, onderzoeker van het United States Environmental Protection Agency.<\/p>\n<p>Nadagouda heeft samen met collega\u2019s een <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sciencedirect.com\/science\/article\/pii\/S2211339815000799\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">paper<\/a> geschreven waarin de bestaande literatuur over TiO<sub>2<\/sub> werd ge\u00ebvalueerd. Zo moet bijvoorbeeld nog worden voorkomen dat TiO<sub>2<\/sub> loskomt uit oppervlakken of materialen waarin het is gebruikt en moeten de unieke eigenschappen nog beter worden benut om ongewenste materialen van oppervlakken te verwijderen.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAls deze punten worden aangepakt, zo denkt men, zal TiO<sub>2<\/sub> zijn weg vinden naar dagelijkse toepassingen en de industrie\u201d,
