_module_preset=&#8221;default&#8221; hover_enabled=&#8221;0&#8243; global_colors_info=&#8221;{}&#8221; sticky_enabled=&#8221;0&#8243;]<\/p>\n<p>De multi-getalenteerde stof titaniumdioxide (TiO<sub>2<\/sub>) wordt nu gebruikt als actief ingredi\u00ebnt in verf en bouwmaterialen die verontreinigende stoffen uit de lucht kunnen verwijderen.<\/p>\n<p>Stel je een stad voor waarin alle gebouwen automatisch vervuilde lucht zuiveren zonder dat je dure filterapparaten nodig hebt.<\/p>\n<p>Het klinkt als iets uit een futuristische wereld, maar de realiteit is dat TiO<sub>2\u00a0<\/sub>deze strijd tegen vervuiling nu al werkelijkheid maakt.<\/p>\n<p>Het laatste onafhankelijke onderzoek heeft bijvoorbeeld aangetoond dat de niveaus van stikstofoxide en stikstofdioxide (NOx) in een typische Londense straat met 15 tot 38 procent kunnen worden verlaagd.<\/p>\n<p>[\/et_pb_text][difl_divider separetor_type=&#8221;no&#8221; _module_preset=&#8221;default&#8221; hover_enabled=&#8221;0&#8243; global_colors_info=&#8221;{}&#8221; sticky_enabled=&#8221;0&#8243;]<\/p>\n<p>Speciale soorten TiO<sub>2\u00a0<\/sub>kunnen schadelijke stikstofoxiden in de lucht verwijderen door middel van \u2018fotokatalyse\u2019 \u2013 een proces waarbij licht een natuurlijke chemische reactie versnelt die fotolyse wordt genoemd. Fotokatalyse resulteert in een snelle omzetting van stikstofoxiden in onschadelijke, oplosbare nitraatzouten die door regen van het oppervlak van een gebouw worden verwijderd.<\/p>\n<p>Door gebouwen te verven of voorgevormde materialen te gebruiken die deze speciale soorten TiO<sub>2\u00a0<\/sub>bevatten, kun je deze reactie op grote schaal cre\u00ebren.<\/p>\n<p>Stikstofoxiden, die gewoonlijk worden geproduceerd door diesel- en benzinemotoren, zijn zowel direct schadelijk voor de gezondheid als verantwoordelijk voor smogvorming. Dit proces van fotokatalyse kan worden gebruikt om gevaarlijke en vervuilende stoffen veilig uit de lucht te verwijderen.<\/p>\n<p>Sterker nog, het TiO<sub>2\u00a0<\/sub>wordt niet verbruikt of afgebroken. Dit betekent dat de op TiO<sub>2\u00a0<\/sub>gebaseerde coatings continu de verontreinigende stoffen uit de lucht verwijderen, waardoor het een kosteneffectieve en onderhoudsarme oplossing is.<\/p>\n<p>[\/et_pb_text][difl_divider separetor_type=&#8221;no&#8221; divider_line_color=&#8221;#000000&#8243; divider_line_width=&#8221;1px&#8221; _builder_version=&#8221;4.27.4&#8243; _module_preset=&#8221;default&#8221; locked=&#8221;off&#8221; global_colors_info=&#8221;{}&#8221;][\/difl_divider][et_pb_text _builder_version=&#8221;4.27.4&#8243; _module_preset=&#8221;default&#8221; header_3_font=&#8221;Noto Sans|600|||||||&#8221; hover_enabled=&#8221;0&#8243; global_colors_info=&#8221;{}&#8221; sticky_enabled=&#8221;0&#8243;]<\/p>\n<h3>Het potentieel van fotokatalyse<\/h3>\n<p>[\/et_pb_text][et_pb_text _builder_version=&#8221;4.27.4&#8243; _module_preset=&#8221;default&#8221; hover_enabled=&#8221;0&#8243; global_colors_info=&#8221;{}&#8221; sticky_enabled=&#8221;0&#8243;]<\/p>\n<p>De Wereldgezondheidsorganisatie schat dat elk jaar 2,4 miljoen mensen sterven als gevolg van luchtvervuiling. Als titaniumdioxide op grote schaal zou worden toegepast op gebouwen, zouden steden een extra hulpmiddel kunnen gebruiken om de hoge niveaus van vervuiling die dagelijks worden geproduceerd aan te pakken.<\/p>\n<p>De effectiviteit van titaniumdioxide als fotokatalytisch materiaal is in twijfel getrokken \u2013 met name in 2016 door de Britse Air Quality Expert Group. Dit concept kan smog in steden met 19 tot 45 procent verminderen, afhankelijk van de omstandigheden.<\/p>\n<p>Studenten van de Universiteit van Californi\u00eb Riverside gebruikten een soortgelijk concept, maar pasten het toe op dakpannen. Elke dakpan is eenvoudigweg bedekt met titaniumdioxide en terwijl ze de hele dag zonlicht absorberen, verwijderen de pannen de vervuiling uit de lucht.<\/p>\n<p>Het vermogen van titaniumdioxide om vervuilende stoffen direct uit de lucht te verwijderen, biedt, wanneer het op een bepaalde manier wordt gebruikt, een enorme kans in de strijd om vervuilingsniveaus terug te dringen. Dit is vooral relevant in steden, die zowel hoge verontreinigingsniveaus alsook een enorm aantal gebouwen hebben.<\/p>\n<p>Er zijn beperkingen aan het gebruik van titaniumdioxide op oppervlakken in de strijd tegen lokale luchtvervuiling, maar het kan worden gebruikt in combinatie met andere maatregelen om een significante impact te hebben.<\/p>\n<p>TiO<sub>2<\/sub>\u00a0biedt een onderhoudsarme en kosteneffectieve manier om de leefomstandigheden van miljoenen stedelingen positief te be\u00efnvloeden door de lokale luchtkwaliteit te verbeteren.<\/p>\n<p>[\/et_pb_text][difl_divider
