A study published in Reproduction Toxicity on 20 August 2024 shows titanium dioxide (TiO2) does not impact the reproduction system. The study was commissioned by the Titanium Dioxide Manufacturers Association (TDMA) following a request from the European Commission to address knowledge gaps identified by the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) in an opinion from 2016.
The study was carried out according to the latest internationally recognised Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) Test Guidelines and has been accepted as a well conducted study showing no adverse effects by authorities around the World including the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA), the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA), Health Canada, Food Standards Australia New Zealand (FSANZ) and most recently by the UK Food Safety Authority (UK FSA).
The TDMA are pleased that this study has now been published in a peer reviewed journal and adds to the growing body of scientific evidence showing that TiO2 is safe.
