An independent study published by Chinese National Centre for Food Safety Risk Assessment[1], China’s food safety body, shows food grade titanium dioxide (TiO2), known as E171, does not show any adverse effects on human health.
The research addresses directly the concerns raised by European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) 2021 Opinion on E171 as a food additive.
These results strengthen the growing scientific consensus that TiO2 is safe to use as a food additive, by regulatory bodies such as the World Health Organization (WHO), the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA), the United Kingdom’s Food Standards Agency (FSA) and Committee on Toxicology, and the Food Standards Australia New Zealand (FSANZ).
The study was conducted in accordance with the latest guidelines from the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD).
